Celebrating UK Pharmacy on World Pharmacists Day 2025
On 25 September the UK joins the world in celebrating World Pharmacists Day. This year’s theme from the International Pharmaceutical Federation is “Think Health, Think Pharmacist.” It reminds us that when we think about health, pharmacists must be recognised as vital healthcare professionals.
Pharmacists are trusted figures across communities, providing advice, support, and a reliable link to the wider health system. They ensure medicines are used safely, deliver vaccinations, promote public health, and offer reassurance to patients in moments of uncertainty. They play a central role in keeping healthcare accessible and effective.
One recent example of excellence comes from the Northern Ireland Healthcare Awards 2025, where Ryan Graham, a pharmacist with the North Belfast GP Federation, was named Practice Pharmacist of the Year (North Belfast GP Federation). Ryan’s work has been widely praised for improving how patients access and understand their medicines, for building strong partnerships with GPs, and for showing the leadership and innovation that make pharmacists indispensable within primary care. His recognition reflects how pharmacists enhance patient safety and help GP practices deliver efficient, joined-up care.
Another highlight from Northern Ireland came at the Pharmacy in Focus Awards 2025 in Belfast, where Stephen Toland of Murphy’s Chemist in Derry was honoured as Pharmacist of the Year. His drive to modernise community services and improve access demonstrates the far-reaching impact that pharmacists can have on both patients and the wider health system.
These award stories showcase what it means to Think Health, Think Pharmacist. From innovating inside busy GP surgeries to leading digital transformation in community pharmacy, pharmacists across the UK are proving every day that they are essential to safe, effective, and people-centred healthcare.
On this World Pharmacists Day, we celebrate every pharmacist for their expertise, dedication, and compassion. They are innovators, educators, and leaders who keep communities healthy and systems strong.
Think Health. Think Pharmacist. And think of the professionals whose skills and care make a difference every day.
