PIF Awards 2026 – The Winners

Celebrating Excellence at the Pharmacy in Focus Awards 2026

The Pharmacy in Focus Awards  2026 in association with UCA-NI delivered an unforgettable evening of celebration, shining a well-deserved spotlight on the passion, innovation and dedication that define community pharmacy across Northern Ireland. Bringing together leading professionals, teams and partners from across the sector, the event was a powerful reminder of the vital role pharmacy continues to play in modern healthcare.

Held in a vibrant and uplifting atmosphere, the awards recognised not only clinical excellence but the human side of pharmacy, the compassion, commitment and community spirit that underpin every patient interaction. From the very start of the evening, there was a shared sense of pride in the room, as colleagues came together to celebrate achievements that are often carried out quietly, yet have a profound impact on people’s lives.

A highlight of the evening was the introduction of the brand new Customer Award, a category that placed patients firmly at the heart of the celebration. Decided entirely by public vote, the response was extraordinary, with thousands of heartfelt comments submitted. Balmoral Pharmacy was crowned the winner, described by its community as “staffed by angels” and praised for delivering care that goes far beyond expectations.  This award set the tone for the night, reinforcing the deep connection between pharmacy teams and the communities they serve.

The Commitment to Health & Wellbeing Award recognised those driving forward patient care through innovation and proactive services. Bannside Pharmacy stood out for its holistic approach, expanding services to include everything from vaccinations and diagnostic testing to structured wellbeing programmes. Their focus on prevention and lifestyle improvement demonstrated how community pharmacy is evolving into a true frontline healthcare hub.

Collaboration took centre stage in the Working in Partnership Award, with Gordons Chemist Medical Hall Kilkeel earning recognition for its impactful work alongside Kingdom Youth Club. By supporting families of children with additional needs, the partnership showcased how pharmacy can extend its reach beyond traditional boundaries, strengthening access to care and building trust within the community.

Innovation continued to shine in the Advancing Independent Pharmacy Award, where Melvin Pharmacy impressed judges with its forward-thinking approach. By introducing advanced diagnostic testing and digital systems, the team has enhanced early detection of illness and improved patient access, positioning itself as a modern, tech-enabled healthcare provider in a rural setting.

One of the most anticipated moments of the evening was the announcement of Pharmacist of the Year, awarded to Shania O’Boyle of Bannside Pharmacy. Her remarkable drive to expand clinical services, embrace new technologies and mentor the next generation reflects the future direction of the profession. Her work highlights how pharmacists are increasingly central to delivering accessible, high-quality care.

The prestigious Community Pharmacy of the Year Award was awarded to Boots Sprucefield, recognised for its commitment to accessibility, innovation and comprehensive patient care. With extended opening hours, a wide range of clinical services and a strong focus on community outreach, the pharmacy exemplifies what modern community healthcare can achieve.

Beyond the competitive categories, the evening also paid tribute to individuals whose careers have been defined by long-standing service and unwavering dedication. These stories of commitment, some spanning over four decades, served as a powerful reminder that pharmacy is not only a profession but a lifelong vocation rooted in care and connection.

Outstanding Contribution to Pharmacy Practice – Helen Murphy

A truly standout moment of the evening came with the recognition of Helen Murphy, Murphy’s Chemist, Derry, as the 2026 Outstanding Contribution to Pharmacy Practice award winner. In a profession built on dedication, Helen represents the very definition of lifelong commitment, marking an extraordinary 50 years on the register while continuing to lead from the front in her family’s pharmacy, which itself celebrates 75 years of service to the community.

What makes Helen’s story so compelling is not only the longevity of her career, but the way she has continually evolved with the profession. From investing in advanced dispensing technology to expanding clinical services and championing staff development, she has balanced innovation with the core values of community care. Known for her honesty, warmth and unwavering standards, Helen has built a pharmacy that is both a modern healthcare hub and a trusted pillar of the local community.

Her impact stretches far beyond her own pharmacy. Over the years, she has mentored countless pharmacists and team members, helping shape the next generation of the profession while maintaining a culture of excellence and compassion. In an era of constant change and pressure, Helen Murphy stands as a powerful reminder of what community pharmacy can achieve when experience, leadership and genuine care come together.

The Pharmacy in Focus Awards 2026 was more than a ceremony. It was a celebration of progress, resilience and the evolving role of pharmacy in shaping healthier communities. As the sector continues to innovate and expand, the achievements recognised on the night offer a glimpse into a future where pharmacy is more accessible, more integrated and more impactful than ever before.
