November registration exam pass rate rises slightly compared with last year

The proportion of trainee pharmacists who passed this autumn’s registration assessment has increased slightly compared with last year, pharmacy regulators have confirmed.

Of the 1,174 candidates who sat the registration exam on 11th November, 722 were successful, resulting in an overall pass rate of 62%. This represents an increase of almost 4% on the previous year.

The figures were published jointly by the General Pharmaceutical Council and the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland on 16th December.

A total of 452 candidates, equivalent to 39% of those who sat the assessment, did not achieve a pass on this occasion.

GPhC chief standards officer Lynsey Cleland congratulated those who were successful in the assessment.

She said passing the registration exam marked the culmination of years of hard work and wished candidates a successful and fulfilling future in pharmacy. She added that the regulator looked forward to welcoming newly qualified pharmacists onto the register.

Ms Cleland also acknowledged those who did not pass at this sitting, noting that information is available on the GPhC website outlining the options open to candidates moving forward.

The registration assessment is a key milestone for trainee pharmacists seeking to join the professional register and practise as pharmacists across the UK.
