Involvement Matters: Shaping Research Through Public Voices

Health and social care research is changing and so is how the public shapes it. The Involvement Matters initiative, led by HSC Research & Development in partnership with the James Lind Alliance, is setting priorities for Personal and Public Involvement (PPI) in research across Northern Ireland.

Through this programme, patients, carers, healthcare professionals, and community groups are being asked to identify where PPI can make the biggest impact. A public survey is open until 25 November 2025, inviting anyone to share experiences and ideas on how to strengthen involvement.

For pharmacists, this is an opportunity to guide research that reflects real patient needs. Insights from everyday practice can help design better studies, improve recruitment, and ensure findings translate into meaningful change.

By engaging with PPI, pharmacy teams can help ensure that future research is not only scientifically sound but grounded in the experiences of those it aims to serve.
