In March of this year, when coronavirus first arrived on our shores, life here as we knew it suddenly changed.
Suddenly, we were queuing outside shops.
Suddenly, we couldn’t step outside without a face mask to hand.
Suddenly, the world began to smell of hand sanitiser and bleach.
Yet amidst all of the chaos – and throughout this period of great uncertainty – there was one section of our world that remained steadfast; one on which we knew we could rely; one which showed us exactly what it could do when the chips were down.
Yes, in times of great uncertainty, one profession remained certain:
COMMUNITY PHARMACY
Where others ‘retreated’, community pharmacy stepped up to the plate and provided a patient-facing service that was 100% reliable and 100% available to one and all.
As Northern Ireland – and indeed the world – continues to fight the pandemic, the province’s community pharmacists have continued to provide a first-class service in the face of adversity, with each pharmacy team displaying the highest levels of resilience, determination and courage.
And now the time has come to reward that resilience. That determination. That courage….
Each year, the Pharmacy in Focus Awards provide an opportunity for us to shine a light on the great work that’s done on a daily basis in community pharmacies across Northern Ireland.
The 2021 Pharmacy in Focus Awards will continue to do that.
BUT, this year’s event will also provide us with an opportunity to thank each and every one of you for the contribution you and your teams made to your communities, and to enable you all to gather together to acknowledge the contribution that each of you made during the last year – and which you continue to make.
